Eileen Fisher is opening up a playbook on how to reduce textile waste to help the industry adopt circular fashion models faster.
The Eileen Fisher Foundation, the designer’s philanthropic arm, is launching an action plan highlighting strategies, resources and solutions to overhauling supply chains.
The 130-page report, called Hey, Fashion! in partnership with sustainable design and technology consultancy firm Pentatonic, assessed over 200 brands, from luxury to fast fashion including Burberry, Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Nike, to understand industry’s impacts and offer solutions.
“We are not circular by any means,” says Carmen Gama, EILEEN FISHER’s Director of Circularity. “No one in the world is circular, but one of the things that helps us on the path to becoming circular is that we start with high quality materials and most of them are natural fibers.
And our garments are simple. That in itself allows a garment to have multiple lives. When they are no longer wearable as garments, the majority can go to fiber recycling, or textile-to-textile recycling.”

This Masterclass explores how fashion can contribute to economies of well-being by prioritizing people and the planet over profit.
It emphasizes the need for the fashion industry to adopt sustainable practices that support environmental health and social equity.
The piece highlights the importance of fair wages and safe working conditions for garment workers, ensuring they benefit from the industry's success. It also encourages brands to focus on quality over quantity, promoting a slower, more thoughtful approach to fashion consumption.
Furthermore, the Masterclass discusses the role of innovation in developing eco-friendly materials and production methods, reducing the industry's ecological footprint. It calls for greater transparency and accountability from fashion companies.

Key Developments:
• In 2024, Hylo Athletics and BLOOM Paris are at the forefront of sustainable and vegan footwear offerings, these materials may include recycled plastics, organic cotton, natural rubber, and innovative plant- based alternatives like pineapple leaf fibers or mushroom leather.
• In 2022, Texon Vogue achieved a significant milestone by receiving certification from the Vegan Society as a fully vegan leather alternative. This recognition highlights Texon Vogue's commitment to producing cruelty-free and sustainable materials for the fashion industry.
• In March 2021, Stella McCartney made a groundbreaking move in sustainable fashion by releasing the first clothing item made from mushroom leather. This innovative material, also known as mycelium leather, is derived from the roots of mushrooms.
• In April 2021, the iconic fashion house, Karl Lagerfeld, and watchmaker, Fossil, made a joint announcement regarding their collaboration on a collection of vegan cactus leather bags.

Europe Fashion Summit (EFS) has confirmed the presence of more than 50 spokespeople from renowned firms, retailers and startups for the 2024 edition, which will begin with a welcome gala where speakers can meet and exchange views followed by two days of content with twelve sessions of conferences and workshops designed to discuss and analyze the industry and global fashion issues.
